Who are we?

Me (Petr Kratochvil) and my girlfriend (Vera Volsanska) are from the Czech Republic but we live in the United Kingdom. We are in our late twenties and we're living together for 5 years. We both study at the Open University (current courses T206 and U212).

Our opinion

We are really concern about our environment and it's important that we (the whole society) must take steps to reduce our pressure on the Earth. For the god's sake it's the only planet we have. On the other hand we cannot just stop living and go back to the caves. But we can change the sources we use to keep our lifestyle on certain level.

Fuel we burn today will not grow back and once we use it up there won't be any left. It really does not matter if we have enough for 40, 60 or 100 years. One day it will be gone and then what? You might think that by that time we will have another sources but it will not change the fact that the oil, gas and probably coal will be gone. And for example oil is used in pharmaceutic industry to make drugs.

Simply, our fossil resources are too precious just to be burned up especially if we have a technology which could cover our energy consumption without the damage to the environment.

Another problem with burning fossil fuels is that it produces different kinds of emissions which are often harmful to living creatures. Toxic heavy metals, sulphur dioxides and oxides of nitrogen which cause acid rains, particulates which damage our lungs also the high volume of CO2 we pump this way into the atmosphere causes climate change (finally admitted by US government), etc.

So the only answer are renewable sources and more efficient products. We want to show here that it is possible to make that change and if enough people care, politician will start to care as well and we can live comfortably without damaging our environment.
